The Trailer (5)

You know, since Cloverfield, the "found footage" motif has been making the rounds. In some cases it can be done well, but in others not so much (I'm looking at you Quarantine and Diary of the Dead). Apollo 18 is another film in that vein, except that the vein takes us back to the moon for an alleged 18th Apollo mission. Check out the trailer below and see why we never went back...allegedly.

Ridiculous right? I also like how they totally try to pass this off as real, with posting "the following footage has not been altered or enhanced". I can't imagine that this movie will do spectacular at the box office when it comes out April 22, but considering the other theatrical releases set for that time this year, I could very well be wrong.

Dream on.

The Replay (4)

I've been doing my scouring of the web this week trying to find some big video that you shouldn't miss, but it seems that the Dead Island [trailer] was that one for this week. It trended on Twitter in a matter of hours after being released, and then rehashed a few more times since then. I'm sure you've all had enough of [zombies] for the week, so I've been looking for an alternative...

The Contest (5)

Get excited folks, another contest is here so soon. I gave a hint in the results for the last contest that this one will deal with TV. So what exactly is the second 1amGeek Contest...

The Rhythm (8)

A late post, and a little lackluster but something is better than nothing. From Govenators and Jeopardy! conquering computers to a real Playstation phone and Coca-Cola releasing their secret recipe, it might as well be Judgement Day.

The Rhythm: 0.3% of your daily vitamin C. I know, you're probably wondering how we fit that much in here. It's not easy.

The Trailer (4)

So it seems like today is just filled with zombies, we just can't seem to get enough of them. Check out the trailer for Dead Island, a zombie FPS headed to PC and Xbox 360 sometime in the future.

I would probably just go see a movie like this, and not even play the game. The cinematic visuals look great and it was interesting to see the before and after coming together to one point. But honestly, who doesn't want another FPS where you can go around a tropic island dismembering zombified tourists?

Bring out your dead.

How many zombie references can I make in one post? Challenge accepted!

The Review (Summer Wars)

My background: I'm a fan of anime, but I haven't watched anything new since 2006. Since I want to get back into art and drawing, I figured I would get back into watching it since that was what inspired me in the first place. Plus, I use the internet, and you obviously do too.

Review: Family. Internet. Armageddon. Math. Animated War Games meets Second Life.

Verdict: worth it/rent it.

This review kind of depends on how you feel about anime and the internet, hence why it got the "worth it/rent it" review. If you like anime, I figure you might want to add this to your collection, but you should definitely check it out either way. Maybe I'm just a sap, but I really enjoyed this, and it was refreshing after such a long absence from the art form.

"Please tell me you didn't break the internet."

Dream on.

The Spoils (3)

It seems like most of the spoils coming out of the entertainment industry as of late have been about Spider-Man, and I'm not talking about the musical. Sony has officially released the name of the reboot to the web-crawler's series. Ready for it?

The Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day! I mean that sincerely.

This day is generally meant for lovers, couples, married people, and chick flicks, but that's not why I'm here today. I'm here to wish a Happy V Day to all of those people who don't have someone to share it with, either by choice or by circumstance. To those who received pity valentines in elementary school, or never received any. To those who make work their lovers, or fantasy their lovers, or...you know whatever floats your boat. To the black, the white, all colors of the rainbow. Basically, what I'm trying to say, and probably not doing a good job about it, is no matter who you are you should feel love on a day like today. I take that back, you should feel love everyday, and today is no different. Commercially it's built up that today should be the above-and-beyond day, which makes the rest of us feel left alone and tossed by the wayside. That's not true.

I've had a hate-hate relationship with this holiday since elementary school (and of course there's a story to go with that), but I've come to realize it's time to grow up. Let the lovers have their fun, just make sure you have fun too. I know, super sappy and somewhat cliché but deal with it, it's V Day. It will always be better than D Day or J Day.

I'll leave you with a quote,

"Wealth is not money. It’s not possessions. It’s not something you can count. Wealth is never having to go a day without knowing someone loves you." - Archymedius

And a message [To The Difference Makers]. Okay, enough of this sappy stuff. I need to see something blow up right now. (Be aware, if you've never seen V for Vendetta, the following could spoil it for you, even briefly)

Love on.

The Monday (2.14.11)

It's Valentine's Day, so let's make this Tom Sawyer Monday a great one by changing it up. Inspired by Rush and Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer Mondays will now include classic rock and/or some important quote from some important person beyond just the original two. Kick love in the ass and get your week started off right.

The Week (of 2.13.11)

The 7th week of the year opens up with Valentine's Day. Don't have any gift ideas yet? Check out all of these releases, perfect for your loved one. Pick up Unstoppable, featuring Denzel Washington and Captain Kirk, or the Gears of War: Triple Pack to shred up the Locust horde together. Or, Hyperdimension Neptunia which actually sounds like a pretty decent game that apparently is about goddesses, based on video game consoles, fighting some weird overlord which is probably named after some codenamed console. Yeah, weird I know, but it's an RPG and the guys over at IGN said that it was actually interesting. Totally off topic. Read on for this week's releases.
