The Badass

Some may think its a little odd to have International Day of the Badass during Women's History Month, but it has to be today, for our ancestors. Who might they be?

A god among badasses
Leonidas and the 300 Spartans, that's who. Why today? Because today is the day their glorious battle was brought to us courtesy of Zack Snyder and Gerard Butler as 300. If you haven't seen this film, I highly recommend it. Of course, if you're not a fan of slow-mo then you may have a tough time with it since about half of it (maybe more) is in that form. Still, it only adds to the legendary action realized in this film. And as Sarge once said, "Today is a good day to die...It has to be today. For our ancestors." Okay, while I definitely don't recommend dying (or killing for that matter) on a day like today or any day, definitely do your best to enjoy the badass nature of you and those around you. And Leonidas and the mighty 300 aren't the only ancestors to consider here, how about Joan of Arc? She was pretty bad ass in her time as well.

Sarah Walker, badass spy
Now, what exactly should you do to celebrate the newly founded International Day of the Badass (which is coincidentally right after International Women's Day)? Get a hold of an action film like 300 or Die Hard or anything that looks like it was dipped in badass and served over a slice of fried gold, then watch it. Play an intense video game like Metroid, and bring the life one of the galaxies most feared badass bounty hunters, Samus Aran. There's any number of things you can do. This day exists to celebrate badasses of all kinds, no matter who or what they might be. I'm just going to rattle off a little list here: Sarah Walker (Chuck), John McClane (Die Hard), Han Solo (if you don't know that you may want to leave this page), Sarah Connor (T2), The Bride (Kill Bill), Sean Connery (in almost anything). You get the picture. It's not about gender, it's not about color, it's not about anything but proving that you, yourself are legendary. That you are a badass for whatever it is you do. You could work for NASA or you could be a janitor (on the International Space Station). No matter what you do, as long as you do it with pride, you my friend, are a badass. And this day is for you.

On my part, I'll be playing Bulletstorm, evading the cops in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, and going to see The Adjustment Bureau. While the last one may not necessarily fit into the category, it's got Matt Damon who has played one of the decade's most recognizable badasses in the form of Jason Bourne. Whatever you end up doing to celebrate, be sure to post it below and you'll be entered to win a copy of 300!

Spartans! Prepare for glory!
