The Rhythm (2)

New Battlestar Galactica + Mac App Store + New Spider-man Talks + TV Sales Drop + Star Wars Blu-Ray = The first full week of 2011.

The Rhythm: If you've been living in a geek shielded cave recently you might want to know this stuff.

The Galactica Rises Again

That's right folks, the series that has been resurrected more times than all of the characters in the Bible put together is coming back with another prequel. It was a sad day for all sci-fi fans, those who weren't even fans of the show, when Caprica was heading towards cancellation this past fall. Syfy, apparently was dropping the axe on all of its decent dramas because not too long after Stargate Universe felt their wrath, but I'm getting off topic. Blood and Chrome (yes, that's the title) is centered around the tenth year of the first Cyclon war and focuses on a young hot shot pilot known as Maverick Adama. You may have heard of him. Anyway, the plot follows Adama as he is assigned to Galactica, and then of course there's a beautiful woman who is not what she seems. Head over to TV Guide to check out a bit more about the plot, and forgive me for not giving all the details. I'm not well versed with BSG, and I've honestly always preferred Stargate but that's my bias. The good news is, despite Caprica's cancellation, the franchise lives on. Now if only Stargate can do the same...

Mac's Apps Arrives

Months ago, Apple promised the Mac App Store, a desktop version of the iOS App Store found on iPads, iPhones, and iPods and they have delivered as promised today. If you have a Mac and Snow Leopard, I recommend performing a System Update to install the new program and allow its excellentness wash over you. No more will you need to order the DVD version of iLife or iWork, instead you can just download it straight to your computer, and the best part is you can buy the individual programs rather than the whole package. Awesome. Plus, tons of games and plenty of other programs that you won't have to sift through Apple's Download page on their website for.

Spidey Under Pressure

So that guy from The Social Network, you know Jessie Eisberg Justin Timberlake Andrew Garfield, has some big shoes to fill as the new Peter Parker, and he's finally feeling the weight of the burden. It turns out "With great power comes great responsibility" isn't just some line to this Garfield, he knows what this character means to people, and frankly having such a recent reboot of a franchise that did well (until whatever they call that third movie happened) could definitely freak the new Parker out. But he seems to be adapting well even though he himself may "want to head the boycott" against the reboot. Nevertheless, fans and die hard fans should be pleased with his overall enthusiasm as Spiderman enters it's third week of production soon. What are your thoughts about the reboot? Too soon? Not needed? Hmmm, maybe I should make a poll about this...

3D and Internet Killed TV

Okay, so not literally. What I mean to say is, 3D televisions and internet televisions have not sold nearly as well as the creators of them had hoped, especially with television sales down over 2010. As I alluded to previously, people are just happy with their already insanely thin plasma and LCD TVs, why the hell would they want to buy a new one that you have to wear glasses with or one with all the capability of your laptop? Beats me, and beats the developers' minds as well. Personally, I have a small HD TV, and it works fine for me. I'm thinking I may upgrade to a larger one sometime soon since it's a bit small for my living room, but still, I don't need to wear another set of eyewear to watch Barney Stinson high five or the Tom Brady throw a touchdown pass through the TV to me. Those things are made to stay in the TV, and apparently most of America agrees with that.

The Wars go Blu

In case you actually have been living in some sort of legendary-proof hole for the last year you probably should be aware of the fact that Star Wars is being released on Blu-Ray this year. That's right, the greatest geek saga of all time (I know there are those among you who may debate this but now is not the time) is being released with the well deserved audiovisual quality update. The complete saga, I-VI will be available in High-Def this September in multiple packages. From the  trilogy packs, the original and the prequel, at $70 each or the complete saga for $140. The special complete package includes over 30 hours of bonus features. Sadly I haven't heard of a gag reel yet, but still deleted scenes, alternate takes, and plenty of other things are worth it. And, Amazon has sweetened the deal by knocking $50 off the complete saga preorder price (that's just $90 if you need help with the math) and $35 off the individual trilogies. I'd suggest acting now jedi knights, stormtroopers, and wookies because this is going to be Legen-wait for it until September because that's when it gets released-dary!

[Gizmodo]

And just to complete this post with some sort of Star Wars reference beyond the Blu-Ray release: 2011 is going to make you wish you were on Hoth because it's shaping up to be a hot one. Okay, admittedly, that was probably my worst so just ignore it and watch this redone Ghostbusters trailer that makes it seem like a good idea for Christopher Nolan to get a hold of the rights for a remake...maybe.

Dream on.
