The 5 (Proposed Empire Improvements)

The Galactic Empire was pretty formidable in its day. Conquering nearly an entire galaxy far, far away and doing it all with a prune-faced emperor at the helm, and his black-clad cyborg acting as its iron fist was no easy task, and running it was even harder. Especially considering those annoying Rebels. So, what could the Empire have done to prevent their downfall at the hands of a few X-wings and cuddly teddybears? Here are the top five suggestions for Empire improvements that could have prevented their downfall.

Honorable Mention: Order 66 Confirmation

When the Emperor, or at the time Chancellor, ordered all troops to enact Order 66, the annihilation of the Jedi Order was carried out relatively swiftly. Clone troops turned on their Jedi companions all across the galaxy and troops were sent into the Jedi Temple to eliminate the younglings. In the end, it seemed like the Empire had done what it set out to do, of course they left behind two of the most influential and powerful Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. If someone had just had a list and they had confirmed all of the dead Jedi then maybe the future training of Luke Skywalker could have been avoided and the Empire saved. A simple checklist…

5. Better Armor

So obvious. For some reason when Palpatine took power his first order after 66 was to cut funding to the military by downgrading all armor for Stormtroopers. I guess they had to pay for the construction of the Death Star somehow. Dumb move. Up against the Rebels, who had better mobility and apparently tougher skin, a few Stormtroopers weren't nearly as much of a threat. Plus, one shot to any part of the body would kill one of these buggers, basically making it negative armor and more of a hinderance. I mean, "I can't see a thing in this helmet" sounds like a cry for more peripheral vision and a wider field of view. Numbers aren't enough Papa Palpatine, they need to be able to take a beating too.

4. Better Officers

I'm trying to remember the exact amount of officers that Vader choked to death in Empire Strikes Back. I think it was about three, and Piet was lucky he wasn't one of them considering his last hyperdrive blunder. Clearly if your staff isn't doing their job well enough that they need to be killed at the first sign of failure you need better officers. I'm sure that in most offices around the world three upper level employees aren't even fired that much in a week, and Vader just chokes them out like it's no big deal. And those were just the few we saw, I can only imagine how things were going in the early Empire when everyone was still green. There were probably rooms with just piles of grey clothed bodies of insubordinate and unlucky officers.

3. Controlling the Outer Rim

The first planet we get a good look at in the entire Star Wars saga was Tatooine, one of the Outer Rim planets. There was no planet-wide government and it seems most of the power was in the hands of the gangsters, more specifically the Hutts. Had the Empire made an effort to control or at least buy the alliance of the Hutts, they might have been able to prevent the Millennium Falcon from escaping, or the Jawas from selling the droids, or just gotten rid of Old Ben Kenobi way back in the day. Plus, a few barracks out in the outer regions of the galaxy probably wouldn't hurt.

2. Better Contractors

Who's idea was it to have an exposed exhaust port that led straight to the core of the Death Star? That guy should have been fired, and definitely not allowed to work on the construction of the second one. Seriously, at least they learned one thing from the Rebels and built a shield generator away from the actual base the second time around. Of course, building it on a planet with technologically primitive Ewoks probably didn't seem like a bad idea at the time. What now Empire? What now? Why not have someone look over the plans for the biggest f-ing weapon in the galaxy to look for weaknesses. I mean, Leia and a couple of Bothan spies undid all of the Empire's work. Not to mention an X-wing and the Millennium Falcon, both times!

1. Get rid of the Skywalker Family

The Emperor knew. He f-ing knew that Vader was Skywalker. He knew that his wife had been pregnant. Why not just get rid of all the remaining Skywalkers just to make sure? Quick and clean and then there would be no Luke. The Death Star never would have been destroyed, and the Empire would be just as strong as it was back in the early days. Leia never would have met Han, Obi-Wan may have never died, you see where I'm going. Things would have been radically different. Hell the trilogy might not even exist. Palpatine could have even filed it under Order 67. Problem solved.

May the Force be with you.
