The 5 (Best Queen Pump-up Anthems)

Having a bad day? Things just not going the way you hoped? We've all been there. We've all felt like there was no way to get back on that proverbial horse that people are always taking about. So what do you do? Reach for your mp3 player and crank the classic rock!

Honorable Mention: "Under Pressure"

Despite not understanding what Freddie is singing for a bit, this song is just one that we can all relate to. Lots of work, or school work, or relationship troubles, or whatever just piles up and becomes overwhelming. So what do you do to combat this? Sing a song about it of course. It's not in the top 5 because the message can be a bit of a downer at times, but I honestly still crank this song when I'm feeling down to bring me right back up again.

Honorable Mention: "Bohemian Rhapsody"

How can you write a Queen list without mentioning "Bohemian Rhapsody"? You simply can't. The song, or shall I say rock ballad, has got a bit of everything. Love, guns, sadness, guitar solos, Galileo, triumph, the devil, and lyrics that pretty much everyone knows. Plus, clocking in at 6 minutes, that's a lot of time rocking, and a lot of time away from whatever catalyst brought this song up on your playlist.

5. "I Want It All"

The title describes pretty much how any of us in America feel. We want everything, and we want it now.  So what do we want when the world feels like it's attacking us? Triumphant guitar for one. A song about fighting for what  you want definitely sounds like a winner for a pump-up song. Don't you just want to take on the world after hearing this?

4. "Another One Bites The Dust"

"Out of the doorway the bullets rip, repeat to the sound of the beat". How awesome is that line? Another strong song with a killer guitar. With an engine rev and even a little record scratching, this song definitely gives the feel of living a tough life on the streets, especially since there are guns involved. But part of getting pumped up is feeling empowered, what's more empowering than the story of someone going postal? Okay, not a good question, but hopefully you get the picture.

3. "Princes of the Universe"

Featured in the movie Masters of the Universe, how could this not be an awesome song? Perfect, I stress the perfect, for studying for an exam. How so? It says so in the song: "With my sword held high / Got to pass the test first time". You'll get an A for sure pumping this into your earbuds before a big test. If not, you can always use that sword you're holding high to...well let's not go there.

2. "We Will Rock You"

We've all sung this song at least 50 times in our lives. Whether it was at a sporting event, during a triumphant scene in a movie, or just when it blasts through the radio. Its super simple beat gets the point across fast. Stamp, stamp, clap, stamp, stamp, clap. It's like the hokey-pokey of rock songs, but its awesome nonetheless. Don't deny it, just enjoy it. Plus, you'll always find yourself singing "We Are The Champions" immediately after finishing this song. And you should, because you are a champion my friend.

Oh and they mention kick the can in the song, one of my favorite games as a kid.

1. "Don't Stop Me Now"

I really shouldn't have to explain this one, so you know what? I won't. Enjoy.

Rock on.

  1. I'm calling BS. Under Pressure is the war cry for the everyman or everywoman to get back on the horse. It is the montage song.
