The Rhythm: A second chance to get your technological fix in one hit.
David and Goliath and the iPhone
AT&T is Goliath, Verizon is David, and the iPhone is the iPhone. This week Verizon announced that early in February the iPhone will finally be available on their network. Cue the coup. Now to be fair, Verizon has taken the lead on this, and Apple has sat in the background like a secret service agent at a presidential press conference. So what does this mean for you, the average consumer? Well, I'm not sure really, it depends on how you feel about Apple products and about Verizon and AT&T. Personally, while I'm not a member of either network, I still see this as a huge moment for the rest of us. I want an iPhone, but up until now AT&T had that monopoly. Now, Verizon has opened the door, let's see where this rabbit hole goes. The bigger news about this move is the updates that are coming to the iPhone 4 that will be coming to Verizon. It features the ability to use the iPhone as a wifi hotspot for 5 devices. Cool right? Plus there may be some improvement to the antenna problem. Of course piece of light there is also a piece of dark and in this case there are a few disappointing things. (1) New network doesn't mean faster download times and (2) simultaneous calling and surfing are an AT&T only thing at the moment. If you can deal with that and less dropped calls, by all means, make the move.

Your Move Skynet
Judgement Day. For some people this is the Rapture, when the trumpets sound, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. For others, it's the day the machines take over. Be aware, the latter is approaching this February. How so? Maybe you remember that crazy smart IBM computer that could kick ass in chess, Deep Blue. Well, IBM is currently working on a computer that trumps that one and should leak fear into your hearts. Watson is the computer that is set to compete with Jeopardy! contestants Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter for the ultimate showdown in man versus machine. Capable of understanding the answers delivered and responding with questions, this computer is dangerously close to finally mimicking human language patterns. Personally, I'm scared, and this video should help scare you to.
Dream on.
